Our Historic Church

The Historic Aquia Episcopal Church is one of the oldest active colonial churches still in operation in America today, and is designated a National Historic Landmark.  Built between 1751-1757, Aquia Church is noted for its three-tiered wooden pulpit and Aquia stone trim. The other unique thing about the architecture of the church is the apse designed from an Orthodox cross rather than a more traditional Christian cross.

Visitors travel from around the world to study the hand-painted calligraphy on wood behind the altar, displaying The Lord's Prayer and The Ten Commandments.  The church survived three wars  - the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War - burying its original silver church communion set on several occasions - which it still possesses today.

Have a wonderful day.
